The radio and/or battery seems to survive only around 2 years of daily moderate-heavy use (heat exposure in vehicles, dropping, dust and dirt), but that's fine in an environment where you expect employees to often damage equipment anyway. The total life span and reliability of the radio is reduced compared to professional radios, but this can be made up for easily with quantity in most situations, though this does make it not recommended for emergency services.
